Godzilla Minus One: sequel announced with official title
Toho reveals next film bears the name Godzilla Minus Zero
At the Godzilla Fest 2025 event, held in Japan to celebrate Godzilla Day, Toho confirmed that the sequel to Godzilla Minus One will be officially titled Godzilla Minus Zero. The announcement marked the return of director, writer and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki, who led the previous film.
Released in 2023, Godzilla Minus One achieved global acclaim, grossing over $100 million and winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, a milestone for the franchise. The confirmation of Godzilla Minus Zero raises new expectations: the title hints at a conceptual or chronological leap from “Minus One”.
What we know so far about Godzilla Minus Zero
Although the official title has been revealed, many details remain under wraps. Toho has not yet released a full synopsis, cast list or release date. Production notices indicate that filming is expected to begin on August 30, 2025, based on an extras casting call posted on the director’s official website. This supports a projected 2026 release window.
For fans of the cinema’s most famous kaiju, Godzilla Minus Zero represents not just the continuation of an acclaimed story, but potentially a new phase for the franchise. With Takashi Yamazaki returning and a bigger budget than the last film, expectations are high for even more remarkable visual effects, new monsters and an expanded narrative scope.
