Death Stranding Isolations: new anime series announced for Disney+ in 2027
Kojima expands the game universe with hand-drawn 2D animation
Kojima Productions confirmed at the Disney+ Originals Preview event that the Death Stranding franchise will get an anime series exclusive to Disney+, under the working title Death Stranding Isolations. The premiere is set for 2027.
The new production will feature traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, and will be handled by the Japanese studio E&H Production. Character designs are being created by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.
Original story and new characters
Unlike the games, the series will tell a brand-new story centered on a young man and a young woman who deal with their own struggles in an isolated, post-apocalyptic world. The narrative explores themes of loneliness, the search for connection and human resilience amid existential collapse.
Team behind the project
Hideo Kojima serves as executive producer, while Takayuki Sano is directing the series. Animation is produced by E&H Production and concept art is based on Kuvshinov’s designs.
What this means for the franchise
The announcement marks Kojima Productions’ first partnership with a global streaming platform. The series further expands the Death Stranding universe by offering new perspectives on isolation and human connection, two core themes of the franchise.
For fans, Death Stranding Isolations represents an opportunity to experience never-before-seen stories set in Kojima’s world. The 2027 debut on Disney+ promises to be a major moment for those following the saga.
